“The Four Muses” Sculpture

“Uff da Open” Olson-Nelson Memorial Golf Tournament

This Best Ball Tournament will have a Shotgun Start at 10am at the Snow Flake Golf Course in Westby.  Fee is $30 per person, and includes 9 holes of golf with a cart, and lunch in the Norskedalen shelter.  Four persons per team.  Registration begins at 9am.  Prizes will be awarded to winning teams and hole competitions during lunch (must be present to win).  Proceeds will benefit a memorial for Roger Olson and Layton “Boob” Nelson.

“Within/Without” is an exhibition about proximity, made in dialogue with others in response to notions of place and distance. Included are drawings, prints, and other media accompanied by cell phone photographs from artists in and outside the region made in an attempt to collapse distances through a shared experience.

“World Harmony Run” to Stop at Children’s Museum of La Crosse

On July 20, participants in the World Harmony Run will be stopping at the Children’s Museum as they pass through La Crosse as part of a 10,000 mile relay through the states.

Their basic message is that harmony begins with the individual and then spreads to our families, friends, communities, and to the world at large.  The participants run carrying an Olympic-style torch and cover thousands of miles across the globe in over 100 countries connecting people of all walks of life.  Everybody can hold or run with the torch and put in their goodwill for a harmonious world.

At 10:30 am on July 20 at the Children’s Museum, the team will introduce themselves and their mission, sing the World Harmony Run theme song, and invite Museum visitors to join them in a wish for world harmony.  Involvement in the World Harmony Run presentation is included with Museum admission.

10th Annual Step UP for Down Syndrome Walk

Registration and Family activities start at 10:00am; Walk kicks off at 11:00am.
Cost: Age 13 and up: $10 prior to September 22, $15 after September 22nd and day of event. Age 12 and under: $5 for pre-registration and day of event.
Family Activities include: Raffles; Big E; Northern Lights Face Painting; The Magic of Isaiah; Premier Fashion Party; Kids’ Games; West Salem Jazz Band; Music w/Amy from Life in Harmony Music Therapy; and more!

Before the walk on Saturday, join Down Syndrome in the Arts and Media at the Radisson Hotel on Friday, October 5th at 7:00pm for the presentation “How the Media Impacts Society’s View of People with Disabilities.”  Cost is $5.00 per person.  Down Syndrome in the Arts and Media is a non-profit, online casting agency for people with disabilities. Gail Williamson is the mother of an adult son with Down syndrome and is known as the “go-to” person in Hollywood for casting people with disabilities in television, film, and commercials. Gail will be adding people to her casting registry – aspiring actors and actresses encouraged to attend. She will also be giving a short talk to kick off the Step UP for Down Syndrome Walk in Riverside Park on Saturday, October 6th at 11:00am. She will be available to add people to the registry following the walk, also.
