Commissioner and UWL Assistant Professor Laura Godden spearheaded the effort of the City of La Crosse Heritage Preservation Commission to research and inform the public about the stories of the 10 most endangered historic properties in La Crosse. By shining a spotlight on them, the goal is to find solutions to make sure they stay part of the community. Come learn more about this important endeavor.

Lowe Center for the Arts, followed by a 7:15 welcome and screening of a short video from last year’s ArtsFest exhibition of the AIDS Memorial Quilt in Annett Recital Hall. This year’s theme is “Unboxing Creation: Anticipation & Discovery,” and this year’s festival features dozens of events beginning Thursday April 25 and running through Sunday April 28. Some top recommendations for the weekend: ArtsFest Opening Reception followed by Twin Talk jazz trio performance (4/25 @ 6:45 pm); presentations on disability aesthetics in performance by scholar Samuel Yates, Ph.D. (4/26 @ 3:20 and 4:30 pm); and something completely unique for ArtsFest – an outdoor hike with Mitch Iburg and Zoë Powell from Studio Alluvium that will show participants how to identify and responsibly source local clays and minerals (4/27 @ 10 am). Wear good shoes and dress in layers!
