The gaming convention Coulee Con will take place Friday, August 25, through Sunday, August 27 at the La Crosse Center. The convention, which is in its third year, features a variety of gaming genres including board games, collectible card games, roleplaying games, tabletop miniatures, live-action roleplaying, video games, and puzzles. Anticipated attendance for 2017 is 550.
Friday and Saturday are typical convention days with a focus on tournaments, preplanned games, a silent auction, table vendors, and an artist alley. Sunday is a day more focused on families with reduced admission and family-focused events. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own games to play at open tables. New this year are a play-to-win library where attendees can win games that they play, an escape room run by Tactical Escape 101, panels focusing on gaming related topics, and a cosplay contest.
Major sponsors for the convention are Apex Hobby Shop (https://www.facebook.com/ApexHobbyShop/) and the energy drink company Gamergy (http://www.gamergy.net/). 2017 marks the third year that Apex Hobby Shop has been a sponsor and supporter of the convention. Coulee Con has also partnered with the charity organization Extra Life to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
Tickets can be purchased online at https://tabletop.events/conventions/coulee-con-2017 or on-site. Weekend passes are $30. One-day passes for Friday and Saturday are $15. A Sunday family pass will available on-site for $5 per family (two adults, four children).
