The fertile soil of the Mississippi River Valley has been one of this region’s most treasured resources for as long as people have lived here. La Crosse is still surrounded by farm country, with hundreds of family farms carrying on this state’s great agricultural tradition. While the work of our larger-scale farmers–whose crops and products are shipped all across the country and around the world–is still incredibly important to our state and national economies, our small family farms, specializing in artisanal, organic, and naturally-raised products, shine locally. The La Crosse area features several farmers markets throughout the year, including a new winter market, to make sure residents and visitors are able to see and enjoy the bounty of our land and those who work it.
