La Crosse native Ryan Hanifl returns to the area to perform an intimate and engaging set, one night only, at the Pump House, Saturday, July 16, 7:30 pm. Ryan is a singer/songwriter/composer whose influences range from Jeff Buckley, Thom Yorke, Antony Hegarty, and Damian Rice, to contemporary composers Max Richter, Jóhann Jóhannsson, and Sigur Rós. His current solo efforts are laden with emotionally charged, melodic, brooding textures, with rousing string arrangements, woven in an evocative dissonance to complement his anthemic vocal performances. Ryan will be accompanied by Indie/Alternative musician, Matt Monsoor of La Crosse.
Ryan Hanifl landed in the Midwest music scene 15 years ago, after graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he worked alongside famed Hollywood film composer Hans Zimmer. Since then, Ryan has been composing music and performing across the country, calling Los Angeles his home.
Ryan has been in several highly acclaimed bands – Vertices, Your Horrible Smile, The Hugeness, and currently LA’s newest indie-rock-buzz band, Black Belt KARATE. He also fronts the internationally hailed “epic-rock” band GLOBUS, which enjoys a world-wide fan base garnering millions of YouTube views each year and multiple placements in theatrical film-trailer advertising. Ryan’s work can be found in national advertisements for Honda, KIA, and Toyota. He has also composed music for hundreds of television shows over the past decade. Ryan is currently working on a follow-up to his debut Sourpuss, and on a new project,ZeroKelvin, with his partner Sammy Allen, known for her work on The Lego Movie, and Robot Chicken.
“Music to me is that feeling you get sometimes at the end of a long, cold, dreary day, when your restless and tired, when all is quiet out and you find yourself dozing off to the sounds of the night, to the crickets chirping, wind chimes faintly ringing, and you lay your head down softly… that warm pillow sleep.” -Ryan Hanifl
